On May 21 this year the Council of Ministers adopted a regulation amending the regulations on the Katowice Special Economic Zone.

With the change of the Katowice SEZ borders, its area has been extended by 346.9079 hectares and reduced by 4.3255 ha of land, additionally introducing the correction of surface area resulting from the new geodetic measurements. As a result of these actions, the surface area will increase reaching  2,347.3429 hectares.

Another 156.5585 hectares will be included in and 3.3989 hectares taken from the zone to finally receive a surface of 1,212.4156 hectares. One of the three decisions concerns the Fiat Auto Poland factory. Fiat Auto Poland SA intends to launch the production of a new passenger car model (B segment), not yet produced by the Fiat Group, in the plants in Tychy and Bieruń. 96 percent of the production is to be exported, including export to the United States. It is estimated that the new production will create 420 new and retain approximately 3,000 existing jobs. Up to 1,500 new jobs will probably be created outside the zone. The estimated investment amounts to around PLN 2.36 billion. Anticipated completion date of the investment is December 31, 2017.
