opel_zafira_gmmpOn Monday, 19 July 2010, the last Zafira II rolled off General Motors Manufacturing Poland (GMMP)’s assembly lines.

“We’re relocating production of this model to the Bochum plant, which is the main plant manufacturing Zafira’s, “ said Przemysław Byszewski of General Motors Poland.

As the demand for Astra IV’s is higher than expected, the company has increased its production of Astra IV’s at the cost of ending production of Zafira’s early. The total number of vehicles that GMMP plans to build this year has not changed, and in 2011 the company’s production may be higher than originally planned.

The Gliwice plant began to manufacture Zafira’s on 12 September 2005. This compact family van did not take long to become the main model produced at Opel’s plant in Poland. The largest number of Zafira’s was made in 2007, i.e. 122,371.

The crisis that hit the automotive sector resulted in production of Zafira’s at GMMP drop over two years to 64 thousand in 2009. This year, until the end of production, 17,500 Zafira’s rolled off the assembly lines.

In total, almost 460 thousand Zafira’s were made during the five years of production.
