On September 20th, 2010 Pittsburgh Glass Works Poland officially received the business activity permission allowing the company to operate in the Legnica Special Economic Zone.
The company forms part of the PGW group - a leader in production and distribution of car windows for companies active in the automotive sector around the world. The company’s project located in the Środa Śląska sub zone of the Legnica SEZ is the first project of the kind run by the investors in the last years.
The company acquired a 22.6 ha plot in the Środa Śląska sub zone which was included in the Legnica SEZ in June this year. While the company will be the first investor in the sub zone, it is expected that companies which co-operate with PGW will follow suit and locate their projects in the sub zone. The sub zone resulted to be the best location for the project. In fact, PGW examined a number of other location across Europe. Among the most important advantages of the sub zone were not only technical conditions, favourable location, access to all media and qualified workers, offered also by other locations, but the positive and fully engaged attitude of administration representatives and institutions which supported the project.
In Środa Śląska PGW will construct a production facility and install a modern production assembly line for the production of car windows. The company will not only focus on production. PGW plans to create an R&D section which, in co-operation with a Polish academic entity, will work on the development of the company's products and production technologies.
PGW will invest at least PLN173.8 million and hire 150 people. The project has already started. The official foundation stone laying ceremony will take place this autumn and the factory is planned to start production in spring 2012.
The PGW project has been supported by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency.
