A ceremony celebrating the initiation of the production of an innovative modular diesel engine (MDB) took place in April 30 this year in the Volkswagen Motor Polska (VWMP) plant in Polkowice. First new generation engines were released from mounting platforms already in 2013.
A new hall (over 22 thousand m2) was established as part of the latest investment. The MDB project (hall and production lines) consumed around PLN 700 million (including PLN 70 million from an EU grant).
The MDB engine project will allow for an increase of production capacity from the present 700 thousand to 1 m. engines annually. Moreover, the latest investment allowed for the creation of 150 new jobs (over 1,220 employees in Polkowice).Since the start of operations in 1999, Volkswagen invested in the Polkowice factory approximately EUR 540 million.
